Kind of a little off topic at best. But, this page is dedicated to anything to do with adventure! And something that I hold dear to my heart is Parkour! I got into it about 8 years ago, and loved every second of it. Now, I haven’t actually participated in a long time. Due, to well life! I know everybody thinks you’re going to hurt yourself, or why do you do something so childish. Honestly, it is a great form of exercise, and if you’re trained enough you won’t hurt yourself to bad. Maybe, accidental sprain here and there, but that’s about it.
It’s an extension of yourself exercising not just your muscles, but your brain as well! Parkour at its most broken down core is a way to get from A to B in the most efficient way possible. Using knowledge of ones self and surroundings together to accomplish it. For me I always loved the since of freedom it gave me. Losing myself in the day, trying to figure out tough challenges, or just simple hanging out with friends. Recently, I decided to pick up where I left off. Now, getting my body back into parkour shape is something left for another day and another post. Remember I haven't actually done it in about years, so I am still a little rusty. But, it's like riding a bike you will never forget how to do it! However, while training the other day it inspired a notion in my noggin. What if I incorporated park our in to my travel routine? How would I go about that and what would I pack for a parkour holiday. So, I got to researching and gathering ideas! I honestly don't know why I hadn't thought about it sooner. Adding it to my travel routine would truly boost the experience I gained from place I traveled too. Giving the advantage of meeting new people in a way I never though of before. As well being introduced to new techniques and styles of movement. And the beautiful thing about its you really don't have to travel to far to gain new experiences, or different styles. Just going from one spot in the city you leave in to the other side will lend new opportunities to learn. Imagine what you could learn from traveling continents! The most beneficial thing to come out of my recent revelation, was the amount of friends one can make while training. Just simply going out for an afternoon practice session where I live has yielded some amazing new friendships. I can only imagine what will happen when I add it in to the travel schedule. Meeting a group in London can turn into a trip out of Europe to France, where you can meet a group and stay a few weeks couch surfing, the possibilities are endless. One of the great things about Parkour is the tight neat underground community that it creates everywhere it goes. From some of the people that I have spoken with that travel a lot have said "You will never truly learn everything." Each new city that you travel to will have tons of different challenges to overcome. But, at its very core Parkour is about over coming and adapting to the situation that is dealt in front of you. A simple change in climate can alter the path you take to accomplish your goal. Over all changing the environment that you train in will dust off that stale feeling you get training in the same place over and over again. With another trip in the works for the coming weeks, the opportunity to grow excites me to my very core. And I know once I start I won't be able to stop. I mean isn't that what adventure is really about, testing yourself and reaching your very limits. Then blasting by them!
